Digital Asset Management
Digital Asset Management (DAM) is yet another of the IT industry’s rather impressive sounding names for a fairly straightforward need. Most large organisations have various rich media files (digital assets if you will) that need to be stored in a central repository and accessed in a meaningful way. These assets might include photographs, voice files, video, presentations, spreadsheets, graphic design files and any other rich media items that the organisation uses. In an unmanaged environment these will typically sit on PCs and departmental servers and be fragmented around the organisation. Various research shows that this results in duplication of effort (the original cannot be found and so the work is done again), lengthy search times and most damaging of all, mistakes and inconsistency.
